M Tech Admission
IITB announces cutoff GATE score for each department and specialization after GATE result.
Candidates have to directly apply to IITB through their website.Good thing about IITB is they will call you to the written test and interview if you have GATE score more than cutoff score mentioned by them so that you will get opportunity to present yourself in front of them.
I heard only IITB and IITK follow these procedures for civil m tech admission unlike other IIT's which intake students based directly on GATE score.
So even if you have low GATE rank you can apply to these institutes . If you perform well in written test and interview you have good chance of getting admission irrespective of GATE rank.
Exam type: Written Test followed by Personal Interview
Written Test:
Written test consists of around 30 multiple choice questions from specialization we opted with some maths and aptitude concepts.
For Ocean engineering specialization we had 30 questions each carrying +1 mark . Negative answer will result in loss of 1 mark for each question.
All the technical questions were from Fluid Mechanics including Dimensional Analysis.
They will shortlist around 40 people to interview based on your written test performance.
Personal Interview:
Personal Interview will be for short duration and they ask question from subjects related to their specialization and our final year BE project.
Written Test pattern is different for different specialization. In structures and Geo tech specialization questions will be descriptive. In Transportation , Water resource and Ocean engineering it is multiple choice type.
Applying to IITB M Tech admission is worth and even low rankers have good chance of screening in provided you perform well in written test and interview.
ALL THE BEST!!
